Abrazo Surprise Hospital opens for patient care
Oct 12, 2020Abrazo Surprise Hospital, located at 16815 W. Bell Rd., near the southwest corner of Loop 303 and Bell Road, is now open for patient care. The neighborhood hospital provides 24/7 emergency care and surgical services, with inpatient rooms available for those needing observation or additional care.
City officials and Abrazo Health leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new facility, the first hospital in the City of Surprise. With an operating room, a 13-bed emergency department, eight inpatient rooms, ultrasound, x-ray and CT scan, laboratory, pharmacy and other services, the hospital fills a need for quality healthcare closer to home for Surprise-area residents.
“Abrazo Surprise Hospital is in an ideal location for ease of access and was planned with an emphasis on quality medical care, safety and efficiency,” said Administrative Director Chrissy Salazar, RN.
“Our general surgery capability means if you come to the ER with gall bladder symptoms or appendicitis, for example, you won’t need to be transferred elsewhere. We will have 24/7 emergency and general surgery coverage,” said Salazar.
Hospital staff looks forward to working with local first responders and EMS providers, added Dr. Brian Hess, medical director of emergency services for Abrazo Health.
“Patients with abdominal pain, sprains and broken bones, lacerations, pneumonia and flu are typical of the types of conditions we expect to see in the emergency department,” noted Dr. Hess. “We also have the capability of extending care beyond the ER to the observation or inpatient environment for lower acuity, uncomplicated medical conditions. It’s about ‘the right care in the right place’ for us.”
